Descriptive opening - just a spot of hesitancy is heard in the moving line. A. - sop a shade flat. B - opens well and I do hear the general detail. - Troms not always in tune with each other. D. Effective -pp- watch the tuning here please in the inner ensemble. E Lacks good clarity - all quavers are not equal - esp. in basses and timps - it sounds like [crotchet rest triplet-quaver, quaver-quaver rest. I. Brisk and confident here. J Forceful - good perc. - watch the tuning in the dim to K please (I know there are clashes). L is used well. M Trom and Corn not together or in tune. Corn plays with confidence here and from N - nicely supported by all - a tasteful ensemble. O Effective corns heard - Basses also - well supported by perc. effects. P - flug a bit sticky - then its all quite confidently played - flug c a shade flat. R - Bold playing here - but nothing overdone. [dim] fine to S where a good ensemble sound ensues - this is good stuff here. Molto rit. to good effect and a good [cresc] is made fff. - fine to T. Timp a shade heavy! - Euph could be a shade smoother - Sop still not quite in tune - V - Brisk - but I do hear the detail. X good sop heard here. Y driven along. Z Bold playing - nothing overdone. AA watch the tuning on those C's please. BB Builds well to CC fine and a close of good conviction is made. Much to commend in this performance.
Thankyou very much.

Good solid opening, and use of dynamics. Good balance leading to a rhythmically sound allegro. All moving parts heard. Good effects. A very good movement just the odd moment of intonation.
II Good Valse tempo. Well done Solo Cor, and accomps. Nice use of <> in euph counter - all goes well with everyone doing their bit
III Good to open, good troms leading to good style at P good bridge passage to Q good style, just the odd blip. Again good bridge to IV.
IV Some wild playing, but settles to an up-beat allegro. Some insecurities in rhythms because of the speed.

Overall a very good performance, but I feel you sacrificed clarity for speed in the final section.
Thank you.

1. Slightly untidy opening but fine{?} blend @ A and top does well. B - good - is this too fast to get the control at C? - Yes - the tempo barely changes, although there is some sense of stylistic change. A few minor blemishes but there is a nice sense of flow and good blend - well judged{?} countermelody at G. Good.
2. Intonation shifts on long note. Accomp a little heavy but there is a sense of dance here. K good, euph slightly sharp on top. J M N Good.
3. Sop a little heavy but good ensemble. Troms not quite together and a nasty split above - in melody{?}. P - balance not quite there - need a bit more top. Q - Troms not good - very bright and quaver semi-quaver not convincing although atmosphere good. Euph not quite @ T - cornets a little messy int. not quite secure.
4. Pesante needs more poise - rather thrown away. Allegro - good style. X - losing cornets somewhat. Y - good contrast. This last movement is a little perfunctory.

Overall - some very good playing but minor blemishes detracted and the movements were slightly uneven.

Disney Fanatasy
Good sound to open. Some neat playing but intonation problems in inner parts. Well done Trombone but accompts are too heavy! Take case in the quick sections - you tend to loose the detail
Amazing Grace
Effective opening - watch tuning on low D's in cornets. B This could be more legato. Good detail but take care with the louder passages, broaden them out more to take off the hard edges.
Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair
I wasn't convinced about this piece - it needs to be much more subtle - soloust should have faced the audience? Flugel too far back and musically it did not happen - sorry!
Demelza
Soloist is fighting against the very heavy accomps. Well done soloist - not an easy solo to pull off.
Lone Arranger
An interesting choice. Well played - but watch the quality of sound on f and ff.

A band with a good sound and potential but you need to control the sound much more. The quality offen suffers at a high dynamic and detail is often lost as a result.

Cornish Cavalier
Confident opening - watch volume is controlled. Very neat rhythmic work. Keep accented crotchets broad and watch phrase ends are not snatched.
Watch balance in perc - very steady and neat but B.D a little strong. Watch tuning at start of trio - a little more contrast in accompanying lines here. Ensemble a little loose here. Keep sound controlled. Very vibrant but watch for overblowing.

Dimensions
Very neat start and better control of sound. Nice work on accents. Good attention to detail. Watch that cnts at B and C move off tied notes together. Don't snatch at phrase endings.
E nice change of mood - good work in basses. Watch voicing is clear. G - only 'f'. H - neat work in trbs. Temp and rhythm is good here - well done. I nice sound in euph. J 'piano' could be less. K sympathetic accompaniment to a lovely solo crnt - well done. Euph plays with plenty of life and colour - good sound.
O some intonation worries here. Some very nice solo playing. Q - very neat - a little heavy for piano?
R nice attention to accents. W watch ensemble here - a little loose. Y - good build up but should not be a harsh sound at Y. better in bar 4. Z - very exciting finale. Very neat ending.
Some exciting work here. Be careful of occasional overblowing. Good sectional work.

Very Full and exciting sound. Watch for overblowing and keep sound rounded. Keep exciting contrasts in dynamics. 'FF' again control of sound. Watch balance.
Trio - a little lighter here?
Nice neat work in percussion. A little more attention to accnts in last line for a contrast.
Keep upper dynamics controlled. Tempo is strict and jaunty.

Roman Triptych
1. Good unison work. Watch that minims more together. A watch balance here. Watch tuning at the end of longer notes. D watch unisons are exactly together. Good work from soloists. J good sound here
2. A Watch unison between the soloists ie exactly together. C only 'forte' here - very heavy. D more contrast here? E some tuning issues here and watch tempo is strictly observed. More 'piano' at the end of the movement?
3. Neat percussion work - but should only be 'mp'. B watch ensemble is exactly together. D hold rhythm under control. Medieval - watch balance here - percussion is very strong on 1st time.
The band plays very enthusiastically but be careful of overblowing and excessive loud dynamics - although exciting it can sometimes be a little overwhelming so 'ff' moments should be…..appear in the…..

1: Stylish opening although I don't hear solo cornet line bar before A. Right feel at A and again at B (pity Soprano!)
Good tempo at D and good euph/cornet lines at E/F - well done. Bravo Lions and tigers!
Watch you don't overblow at N - this seems to cause unforced errors and poor intonation (sop). The climax just rushes away in the last few bars resulting in a lass than convincing close

2: Not quite convincing to start
Nice Solo Cornet at B just the odd moment of poor intonation - Solo Hn. The detail is heard in most places, but intonation in general just detracts overall. Bravo Horns before G! Nice close at p from ensemble with good solos

3: Opening not always rythmically secure. D imbalanced - bass end overpower Hns/Cors. This is improved from F to K. Brave attempt solo euph.
M - Good medieval feel to the music and good attempt at the [semi-quaver triplets] at Poco Meno Mosso, building to a strong close.

Overall, some basic challenges of ensemble playing, balance and intonation have detracted. Some good moments in places tho! [sic]
Thankyou

1/ Good style to open and a good solid sound. A good and good contrast at C. D good tempo. G troms not quite in tune on low d's. J good baritones. L this could be more legato. Some untidiness into O and detail is lost.

2/ Not quite secure to open and solo lines could be more confident. Good approach to F - careful not to overdo the f in [accented quavers]. H soloists play well - good close.

3/ Good approach to A but not quite together in troms. 6/8 lacks detail. K Euph negotiates cadenza well. L good troms. M Sensible Tempo. 161 - Poco Meno - lacks detail.

Well done.

Good clean start with all in place and well balanced, just a hint on intonation in cornets. B take care but lots of detail in general. E + 3 not clean in horns but the music flows nicely. I + odd blips again in Euph do take care. J - is so effective. K solo cornet plays with good style.
L Euph links well with cornet but M+5 again careless blip but this is very musical and so well balanced, nice lead into P. Euph well played and also Eb. Super muted cornets. Q again all detail is there and you do observe the dynamic contrasts. Sop sits well.
Y is so Grandios and all in control all way to end (Timp just rushed a touch).
Super performance only odd bar early on with intonation and occ. slips to detract but very musical reading well done M.D. percussion blended well.

1) Well controlled and well shaped that captures the atmosphere! A - well balanced - muted cornets well balanced and shaped. Impressive lead to B. B a little more teneramente style please but band is well balanaced. C neatly handled despite minor lapses. E - good sustained playing but a little more ff. F minor lapses by sop but band is well shaped and dynamics well observed. G Neatly handled and a fine ending.
2) Good tempo! Very stylish Solo Horn plays with shape and confidence upto A and onward. B - a little more movement here please, in my view C - spot on! D again lovely Solo Horn well in evidence, very tasty. Meno Mosso - well contrived. F well shaped to a fine ending - very classy ending Solo Horn - thanks!
3) Well controlled opening but tempo rushes at A and onwards to B. B Improvement in terms of tempo. C rushing again what a shame! D there is danger of loosing control because of rushing. F fairly good. G growth of volume well handled. A good ending is achieved! Thanks

Tempo is good - and you take musical risks. Thank you. Build to E has feeling, but ensure sustain in block chords @ E. Sop slips noted - great shame! Again - you take risks to make music! E-G a bit loose!
2) Good control to start. You give the S. Horn space to work in!! (MD). However, it is well under tempo - but musical! By B - sounding a little lacking in flow! B Good! C well controlled. Good S. Horn - D. E Meno - well thought out! Excellent S. Horn to end!
3) Good statements here, Perc - (SD) a bit loose! However avoid rushing semis!! Tempo varies too much! Bass Solo - good but rushed - no poise! Shame!!!

Mephistolpheles - Shipley Douglas
Almost a convincing opening to the programme. Just a few rhythmic irregularities in the descending quavers s/c (line 4). Cantabile could flow more easily. TRIO semiquaver detail is rather lost in the solo cornet line. Ensemble is not always clean in execution of phrases. Solid sound to end.

I Wish You Love - Charles Trenet arr. Alan Fernie (soloists Anthony Hayes and Lori Warsop):
Again, almost a convincing opening. Secure duo with excellent perc. rhythmic accpts. Balance of duo not really precise. Tuning rather suspect. lead Euph. can be sharp at times, 2nd Euph tendency to play flat at times. Good style of troms to portray this idiom. Inconsistent blend of duo detracts from the overall of this pleasing item.

Sombrero (Mexican Hat Dance) - Trad arr. Clive Lewis (soloists Wayne Williams, Paul Davies, and Julia Powell):
Energetic opening and soloists too! Take care to ensure that the soloists are always in tune with each other. Effective Trom link at E. Well controlled ending.

Singin' in the Rain - Nacio Herb Brown arr. Alan Fernie:
Almost a concise opening cors/perc. Delightful temp and rhythmic balance. Dynamics all carefully controlled. E "Billy Terrent Brass Band" well captured and presented. H poor balance - Troms. This has been an effective item.

Concert Variations - Don Lusher (soloist Steve Fidler):
Solid opening bars. Soloist untuneful (flat) at the start when improves above the stave. (D - 3rd position is a problem). C This is relaxes playing and in the style required. D still slightly flat (before F). Most notes 'speak' cleanly - good flow maintained to the end. Finished with a fine flourish!

Batman - Danny Elfman arr.Alan Catherall
Untuneful opening note (Basses). Should be more sinister in character! String rythmic pulse at 12/8. Euph sharp above stave. Effective control Bar 37 and onwards to 61. quavers and semiquavers Bars 81/82 - Well controlled ending. Excellent tympanist!

Well selected programme - mostly well presented but somedetails need attention.

Mephistolpheles
A very loud breath to start! Then followed some good playing, in particuar the 6/8 rhythms, which can cause problems, are managed very well. Good attempt at dynamic range but percussion please pay quiter in 'p'! By and large good details on ends of phrases too. Just the odd harsh sound, but generally a v. good march

Laudate
Good 'maestoso' at beginning and things settle well. Good at B although euphs could match everyone else's 'leggerio' better. D siciliana. Excellent feel and two great soloists. However, insecure into H. At I balance is bottom heavy - I lose the tune. Also balance at J is not even and difficult section before K doesn't quite come off.
M is sensitive in accompaniment . Euph could have some more natural-sounding phrasing. Good sounds at N and great dynamic control at P.
Q good style evident, especially acciaccituras. A little scrappy at U and main theme suffers from poor intonation. As you approach Y things start to go a bit mis-shapen and the Y itself is not as broad as it could be - try not playing quite so loud and many of the intonation and balance problems you have will vanish! Having said that, sop sounds like there's lots left in his tank and trombones are magnificent at the close. Overall, started with much promise and faded a little.

Aces High
Good gutsy start but I can't hear the tune at sign! (perhaps basses and perc too loud!) Much better at D but same problem on return to sign - please note difference between f and ff. Nice touch 2 bars before G. I is a touch OTT on dynamic I feel! However I love to hear lots of enthusiasm - just keep it under control!

Valerius Variations
Brilliant sounds to open - gets the mood just right! Vivo sounds great - watch tuning in basses when you get melody (eg 57) 101 could have been quieter. Careful trombone at 133 (goes out). Again a little out of control before 151.
151 much better - nice warm sounds. Sop having a good day (just a tiny bit flat occaisionally [sic]). Once again sounds a little forced before 200 (ff).
214 However is super and great contribution from percussion. Good fugue, detail is clear. You enjoy yourselves to end!

Overall - well done, loads to commend. At 'FF' just be careful to keep the sound big and commanding, but not hard or out-of-tune (lower band are often the culprits!)
Thanks!

The opening is clear and stylish but intonation problems arise at the entry of the lower instruments, and in the passages -23-.

Vivo begins well although percussion is not entirely clear. Dynamics are well managed with effective contrasts. This is clear and generally tidy playing.

Andatino - music is well phrased and has shape. The dynamic level is very soft - good! (unless you're a sop player!) - and this is all very musical in its presentation.

Allegro. A real FF and there's quality playing and good balance evident. Tempo is on the fast side and at times it feels rather hurried - the accented music before 296 stumbles a little. The louder music is energetic and vigorous, but don't neglect the softer sections (346!) where appropiate.

This has been an enjoyable performance, well prepared by the MD and effectively presented.

Adjuicator 1:

Opening bars nicely shaped, more cresc. needed to the 'mf'.

Neat playing at the vivo - well controlled dynamics. Well done into '101' and generally the playing flows well - good into 151

Brave dynamic here - well done - just the odd slip - try to sustain the crescendo into 184. Tuning a little suspect euphs at 184 (sharp) but a very musical approach to this movement.

Exciting at 214 - just a slight feeling of rushing at times. Good effort at 252 and well controlled dynamics into 296 indeed the attention to dynamic detail is well considered throughout this section. Troms and lower brass play with conviction and percussion is effective. Some moments of intonation just detract slightly in the middle of the band.

Generally a well constructed and musical performance. Well Done. Thank you.

The Gloucester Wassail (Phil Harper): Confident start, visual effect O.K (Troms not in correct order). Tempo is changing and even flow is not correct. Also a few untidy moments.
Malaguena: Good start made. C Could be softer good perc. work but a shade loud for piano. Dynamic contrasts from band are good. Style is very good. A well played item.
Misty: Softer in style and dynamic for me to start please. Horn has a good sound. The acciaccatuaras could be more laid back and fuid in style. Tutti band could be kinder in dynamic asn style. Horn grows in confidence throughout the solo. Bravo well done.

[I] A very fine sound immediatelt enjoyed. Some doubt expressed in harmonic changes.
Checkout [sic] ensemble issues constantly Bass section seem to play behind the ensemble noticably.
As the piece progresses and flows very nicely on the surface there is [sic] lapses of concentration in intonation.
A movement of inconsistency to reflect upon.

[II] Checkout [sic] tonality and intonation constantly espeically in accomp. Soloists say some nice phrases (again check intonation cornet/euph relationship).
Musically feels slow/slowing in G section. Spirit recovered H onwards. Check intonation to close.
Once again inconsistencies worry.

III Immediate change in perception. Lots of character shown and technically accomplished overall. Dynamics and confidence evident.
This is unquestionalbly the high point of this perfomance - well done all - preparation and display seem to be enjoyed by all. It shows well.

1. Very untidy to open and the accents are so hard that you bend the notes. A is much tighter and convincing. C well handled as is D. From E things become rather wild and the ensemble is poor because of it.

2. Timp + basses not in tune to open and it is very loud for p. Horns do well and the melody line measures [semiquavers] well. B Well done sop. Accomps not balanced (bass to [sic] strong) Most convincing from C and you have real power at E. Again watch those accents in the horn to close. You bend the note very badly.

3. Flugel does well to open - you sound so nervous so well done! Euph/Cornet play well too. Accomps well handled. B Rhythm is loose and inconsistent there is also too much trombone. D basses do well here. Watch balance from E Parts a [sic] sticking out - horn and the odd cornet. F lacks power and needs to be more sustained. G those accents again!

Opening chord untuneful, but you recover and take risks with dynamics, but the intonation suffers.
Piu Mosso inproves. B gains in confidence. C Again intonation suffers, but you are trying to play quiet. Good accel.
D Agile but keep a tight control on the rhythmic detail. I untuneful. J You are pushing the tempo and it causes problems. O Needs more expression and shape. Q missed tuned [sic] percussion and again more space required for better result. UV Percussion enjoying their moment.
